It was in the 1960s that Heuers became extremely popular among both professional and amateur automobile racers. Heuer chronographs were used by pilots throughout the 1930s and 1940s. Heuer moved things on and released their first wrist chronograph in 1914 with the crown still in the 12 o’clock position. A dial indicates the duration of a trip at the 12 o’clock position and is set/reset by a top-mounted crown. Heuer has been associated with ‘Dashboard Chronographs’ since 1911 when they received a patent for the ‘Time of Trip’. The name is built up from the initials or ‘Techniques d’Avant Garde’ and of course the founder’s surname, Heuer. A majority stake of the company was sold in 1985 to the TAG Group forming the brand we recognise today, TAG HEUER.
